GEDSI mainstreaming advances in Marshall Islands and Kiribati
FAME supported the Marshall Islands to develop its Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Implementation Plan for fisheries, and Kiribati's gender and fisheries assessment was led by MFMRD with FAME support. Both deepen GEDSI mainstreaming in the sector.
FAME established 11 partnerships in 2024 with 5 partners (DFAT Australia, MFAT New Zealand, World Bank, US Department of State, WCPFC). The portfolio reached EUR 127 million across 40 projects and 5 programmes — and grew to 47 grants and EUR 92 million in new partnerships in 2025.
Pacific Regional Aquaculture Strategy under development
FAME led extensive 2024 consultations on the new Pacific Regional Aquaculture Strategy (PRAS), engaging all 22 PICTs. The strategy will guide regional aquaculture priorities for the next several years and pairs with the mid-term review of the Regional Framework on Aquatic Biosecurity.
